Do I need a visa to study in Ireland?

Please click here to see if you need a VISA or if your country is listed. If your course lasts for more than three months a D-Study VISA will be required.

Where do I get a VISA?

You can apply for a VISA at the Irish embassy or consulate in your country of permanent residence and you can obtain the details from here (or direct from the VISA office in Dublin. The address is:

What documentation do I need?

You can obtain VISA's and information from the Irish Justice Department.

What courses do DBL offer?

DBL College offer Business Courses and English Language Courses.

Am I allowed to move from one college to another?

Yes. We accept students from any college in Ireland.

Will my attendance from my previous college be accepted?

Yes, provided your attendance is above 65%.

What are the application deadlines?

For our Business & IT courses, we have 2 start dates - October and February.
For our English courses, we have 4 start dates, January, April, July and October.
Students can enrol at any time to register for these programmes.

Are your teachers fully qualified?

All our English teachers are fully qualified with Degree level education and a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certification.

All our Business & IT teachers are hand-picked, highly qualified and extensively experienced to provide you with top quality tuition and guidance.

Your teacher will help you to set realistic learning goals and ensure that you have the best possible support in achieving these.
Your progress in the different skills will be monitored on an ongoing basis and your teacher will give you advice on which areas of study you need to concentrate on.

What are the class timetables?

There are four timetables available for English Classes:
Monday - Friday: 8.45am – 12pm
Monday - Friday: 12pm - 3.15pm
Monday - Friday: 2.30pm – 5.45pm
Monday - Friday: 5.45pm – 9pm

Our Business and IT courses can vary, please contact us for the most up to date timetable.

How much do your courses cost?

Course costs vary depending on the course, contact us for details.

After I have enrolled, when do you send the letter to Immigration?

When you have paid the course fees, we will immediately inform immigration of your enrolment so you can apply for a VISA.

Can I change my class times?

If your class time no longer suits you, you can arrange with our Director of Studies to be placed in another class time if available.

Can I change my English Class level?

If you find your level is too high or too low for your class, we will place you in a more appropriate level.

If I enrol, can I get a VISA for 1 year?

If your previous attendance level is over 85%, you should get a VISA for one year.

Do I need to do exams?

All our English and Business courses are assessed via examinations or assignments or both, see course information for details.

Can I check my attendance record during the course?

You can check you current attendance record using our Kiosks - located in both campuses - ask at reception for details.

How many holidays do I get?

All students are entitled to 3 months annual holidays - DBL will give you a calendar of events when you enrol so that you know when you have time off.

How long do I have for Christmas and Easter holidays?

Two weeks for Christmas, one week for Easter.

If I am sick, does it affect my attendance?

If you are sick, you need to have a medical certificate from your doctor, you can bring this to immigration when applying for your next VISA to explain missed days.

Will I be allowed days off for my religious holidays and will I receive my attendance for them?

You will have to inform reception first.

What are the requirements for non English speakers?

You will need to have an IELTS of 5.5.

What levels of English language do you have?

Do you have full day courses for English language?

We do not have full day course. We have maximum 3 hours per day lessons for 5 days per week.

Am I allowed to make up classes if I miss any class?

No. If you miss a class it will be regarded as no attendance.

Will I get a tax refund on my college fees?

Can I pay by Credit Card?

Yes.

Can I pay my tuition fees in instalments?

No, you are required by the Irish Government to pay all fees in full before our arrival in Ireland.

Will I receive a refund if my VISA is refused?

Yes. We refund all payments but we do retain an administration charge. We will only refund payments on VISA refusal claims on presentation of the refusal letter and your passport. We will either transfer the monies into your account or you can collect a cheque from our administration office.

How large are the classes?

We feel it is necessary to ensure that our students receive the maximum benefit of studying at DBL College and therefore limit our class numbers. This offers the student interaction with diverse students and also the advantage of personal attention from the teacher if required.

Can I keep a car at the college?

Unfortunately there is no access to a car park within the confines of the DBL building. Students will need to provide their own parking arrangements.

Are my private details secure at DBL College?

Your personal details are very secure. DBL College is bound by the Data Protection Act which stipulates that no personal details of students be revealed to other persons without their direct authorization.

How do I get from the airport to the host family?

Transport from and to the airport is offered on request. If you do not wish to book a transfer from the school you may catch a bus or take a taxi from outside the airport. The address of the host family will be sent to you on a letter that you will need to produce on arrival at the airport to the immigration.

Will I receive any meals with my host family?

Breakfast and dinner are served by the host family. Your dietary requirements also need to be discussed on arrival as it is imperative to your well-being to ensure that the host family understands your eating habits.

How will I find my way to school on the first day?

If you book a transfer with the school our driver will hand you a Welcome Pack upon meeting you at the airport. This will contain, amongst other things, a detailed map of the area with the host family and school clearly marked.
Your host family will show you where the school is on the first day and if you are staying in a Hotel, the receptionist will explain the quickest way to the school. If you do not book a transfer from the school, when you arrive at your host family or hotel you will find a Welcome Pack.

Where and how can I find a place to live in Dublin?

You can search on the internet www.daft.ie or the newspapers or sometimes there are notices up on shopping centre notice boards.
