The aims of our General English Course are:
- To develop the students ability to use English in a range of personal and social situations.
- To advance the student’s ability to use English effectively for practical & vocational communication.
- To furnish students with an awareness and understanding of the culture of Ireland and other regions where English is spoken.
This is achieved through specific programmes designed for each level. Each programme involves reading, writing, listening, vocabulary, grammar and pronounciation and leads to an internationally recognised qualification. We have ensured that each programme is delivered in a fun and interactive fashion. Students are level tested when they enroll in the college and follow the programme appropriate to their level:

The first two steps of our English Language programme here in Dublin are officially recognised and assessed by TIE. TIE is the Test of Interactive English and has been developed by the Advisory Council for English Language Schools (ACELS) to meet the needs of students taking English language courses in Ireland and is recognised by the Irish Department of Education & Science.

The second three steps of DBL's programme are officially recognised and assessed by FETAC. FETAC is the National Awarding body for Further Education and Training in Ireland and is funded by the Irish Government under the National Development Plan.
Advanced
The final step of DBL's English Programme is IELTS preparation. On completion of this course you will be fully prepared for you IELTS examination. IELTS is the International English Language Testing System. Over 3,800 educational institutions, government agencies and professional organisations across 120 countries around the world recognise IELTS scores as a reliable and valid indicator of ability to communicate in English. The IETLS exam is a prerequisite for non-native speakers of English wishing to complete a university course in an English speaking country.
