Tourism Courses

Tourism Studies (2-Year): (DTXXX)

Internationally, Tourism is the world's biggest and most important industry. It is a key economic driver in most developed countries today, and is the fastest growing industry in developing countries. This means the possibilities for careers in the tourism and hospitality industries are endless.

This Tourism Studies course is a 2-year, FETAC level 5 programme in which the candidate will learn the specialist skills needed for working in the tourism and hospitality industries, and also prepare themselves for further training and education in Tourism.

The course can be divided into 3 main areas:
  • Extending your understanding, skills and knowledge of tourism industry (Tourism Awareness, Heritage)
  • Enhancing your specialist skills needed for working in the tourism and hospitality industry (Reception, Customer Service, Tourism Enterprise)
  • Preparing for the work environment and improving your ability to work effectively with people and in a team, (Personal Effectiveness in the Workplace, Work Placement, English as a second language, Communications)
Business Knowledge and skills developed through this course:
  • Tourism Industry Skills: Understanding how tourism evolves, and how to maintain a successful tourism trade through detailed understanding and knowledge of its development.
  • Service industry skills: Service industry skills developed to enhance your ability to deliver excellent customer service, through thorough understanding of customer requirements.
  • Workplace skills: Learning to work effectively in a team environment and communicate effectively with people.
  • Human Resource & People Skills: Developing important skills needed to progress your professional career in tourism and hospitality.

DBL College's Tourism Course is recognised internationally through Ireland's National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) and the European Qualifications Framework (EQF).
